Siete Pecados

Captivated by Coron

Part 2 of 9

We had a good night sleep, woke up early, ate breakfast, and got ready for our island tour – the highlight of our Coron Adventure. With our motorized banca we headed to Coron Island, a 10 minute ride from the town proper.

Our first stop is the Siete Pecados. Many stories arose from these famous 7 islets- they say that it is about the 7 mortal sins, while others says that it is about the 7 siblings and the curse. Yet whatever story it is, Siete Pecados is a reflection of what could have happen to our rich biodiversity. The islets are breathing with green flora, yet as one snorkels he is faced with grey and dead corals with no fishes thriving in the area. This is due to the over fishing using cyanide and dynamite years ago before it was prohibited. Now the islets are already protected hoping that the corals would be rehabilitated. Again it is never too late.
