Let’s Go Green!

An amazing race for nature’s benefit!

La Mesa Eco Park

“If you want a year of prosperity, plant corn.

If you want a 10 years of prosperity, plant trees.

If you want hundred years of prosperity, empower the people.”

These are the 3 sentences I memorized and later on realized as I joined our office’s Eco-Mazing Race. As the name already implied, it is a race, where camaraderie in taking good care of our nature is the core value and spirit. The activity was held in La Mesa Eco Park, where 5 teams, 6 stops, and 7 activities are accomplished.

La Mesa Eco Park, being the last frontier of the water reservoir in the Metro, continues to struggle in promoting a better and greener ecosystem, or as I might say urban eco-system. Information campaign and activities as such somehow promote a better environment and greener future for the next generation. To know what, why, and how-these creates a better awareness and knowledge of what we did in the past, of what situation are we now into, and of what we can do for the future. The present stage, is a well known given fact- we all know where we stand now, but the problem lays on a better and deeper understanding of the situation, and perhaps to know what to do, and of how we can manage change for the betterment.

The activities held are easy, yet the challenge and the competition itself- racing to be number 1 is the hardest. Yet when all things are done the faster and the better way, it is all worth it. Our team won, despite the gruesome competition, the struggle to run and to catch our breath. Just like in our role as caretakers of this earth, we need to act quick, think fast, or do the right thing, or else we will all lose.

We planted Cupang Tree- one of Philippine’s hardwood. I do hope that despite my un-green hands the baby tree would blossom into a big tall tree! And if that do happen, I can say I am a responsible child of Mother Earth.

They say that there are 3 greatest legacies you can give mankind:

  1. Bear a child—share your remarkable blood and genes to the future.
  2. Write a journal — share your thoughts, especially where your kids and grandkids can get to know you better. ( is a blog like these considered?!…i say yes!)
  3. And last but the greatest—plant trees—these I can say that no one is not exempted. You may be sterile, you may be uneducated, but you can never be an irresponsible human being. And this is something you can share to generations even beyond your great grandchild.

I’ve done 2 already—the first one will come at the right time.

1 champion, 1 company, 1 advocacy yet numerous baby trees planted, information dismantled, and realization made in my mind. Hopefully these realizations would soon turn into an unending advocacy in taking good care of our Mother Earth.

Hopefully…somehow…it would be greener and better future.
